Sacramento County Public Health - Protect Your Sweet Smile: Sugar-Sweetened Beverages & Oral Health

Course Overview:

The purpose of this training is to increase dental office personnel’s understanding of how to confidently engage their patients in the conversation about the risks of sugar sweetened beverage consumption, as well as how to use anticipatory guidance and motivational interviewing strategies to help guide the patient in making healthier choices for themselves and their families.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this "Protect Your Sweet Smile" presentation, participants will:

  • Know about the "Rethink Your Drink" campaign
  • Understand how to apply the campaign messaging in the dental office
  • Be able to share available resources with patients
  • Know how to use anticipatory guidance and motivational interviewing tools to guide patients to new behaviors

Who Should Take This Course:

  • All Dental Professionals.

What to expect:

  • Passing grade is 70% or higher
  • Below 70% grade means you must retake the course
  • You may retake the course until you get a 70% or higher grade
  • You may take any course as many times as you wish
  • You may not take the same course and receive duplicate credits
