Artur was a great interview. When I met him at our studio last Fall we talked easily about our jobs, lives and families. When we finally sat down to tape the discussion he talked about his experiences freely and honestly. He told me about the discrimination he experienced that derailed his career and the impact it had on him for years to come.
It is the most touching part of the AB1825 show because his reaction to my question brings home the real impact of harassment, discrimination and retaliation, not only on our professional lives but on our family life, our perception of ourselves and it steals the confidence needed to be our best both at work and at home.
Artur is one of our LGBT representatives in our latest educational documentary/training on the prevention of sexual harassment, discrimination and retaliation. He has the unique experience of being both a target of discrimination and a supervisor who had to help others who felt discriminated against or harassed.
As he described his supervisor duties, I was impressed with how he had dealt with employees accused as "the harassers". He told me so often the person accused is not trying to hurt their colleague, they were just unaware of boundaries.
We talk a lot about boundaries in our instructional documentary. Legal boundaries, personal boundaries and the importance of a company policy that makes those boundaries clear to everyone.
