The Responsible Beverage Service Training Act was established in 2017 with the passage of Assembly Bill 1221. This law mandated the Alcoholic Beverage Control to develop the Responsible Beverage Service Training Program (RBSTP) to educate servers and managers of alcoholic beverages on the risks of serving alcohol to minors and over-serving patrons. The goal of the program is to decrease alcohol-related harm in communities. Starting in 2021, an estimated 1,000,000 on-premises alcohol servers, managers, and licensees are required to complete this training.
As of July 1, 2022, all servers and managers of alcoholic beverages must possess a valid Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification from an Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) approved training provider, and pass an online RBS exam administered by the ABC within 60 days of starting their employment.

Q. How do I get a copy of my certification to provide my employer as proof of certification?
Your training certificate is recorded on your ABC Server Dashboard in the training history at the bottom of the page. They are using digital certificates, which will be housed in the RBS Portal. Your employer will be able to check and confirm your certification via the Licensee Login on the RBS Portal, which will be available later this year as it gets closer to the legal requirement for the mandatory statewide training. In the interim, if you want, you may take a screenshot of your ABC Server Dashboard and provide that to your employer.
